The layers behind and under the tile that keep water where it belongs, finished in the tile you choose.
Vanities and storage
Vanities, medicine cabinets and niches sized for the room and the people using it.
Fixtures and fittings
Toilets, faucets, shower valves and accessories selected to work together.
Ventilation and lighting
Exhaust fans that actually clear moisture, plus lighting at the mirror and overhead.
Accessibility-minded updates
Grab-bar blocking, lower thresholds and layouts that stay comfortable as needs change.
BEFORE YOU START
Plan it
properly.
A few decisions made early tend to save time, money and rework later.
- 01
Waterproofing matters most.
Tile and grout aren’t waterproof on their own. What goes behind them decides how a shower holds up over time.
- 02
Choose fixtures before rough-in.
Shower valves, drains and wall-hung pieces need the right connections in the wall before it’s closed up.
- 03
Don’t skip ventilation.
A properly sized fan vented outdoors protects paint, grout and framing from moisture.
- 04
Plan around a shared bathroom.
If it’s your only bathroom, think about timing and alternatives while it’s out of service.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Good to know.
Can a tub be replaced with a walk-in shower?
Often, yes. It depends on where the drain is, the floor structure and how the shower floor will be sloped. We’ll look at those details when we discuss your project.
How long does a bathroom renovation take?
A like-for-like update is quicker than a full gut with new plumbing locations. Fixture and tile availability also affects timing. We’ll give you a clearer picture once we know the scope.
Do I need a permit to renovate a bathroom?
Replacing fixtures and finishes usually doesn’t require one. Adding a new bathroom or changing drain and vent piping may. Check with your local building department, since rules vary across the GTA.
